Why EBP‑SLP?
My name is Abbey Rowe, a medical-based SLP who wants more for my patients.
I graduated from my Master's program just over a year ago and finished my clinical fellowship in March. During graduate school, I completed a thesis and got to see firsthand how much work goes into producing high-quality research for clinicians to use.
And I have so much respect for that work.
But when I entered the clinical world, I saw something else.
I saw clinicians who are overworked, underpaid, and stretched far too thin. Clinicians who genuinely care about their patients but don't have the time to thoughtfully plan every session around the latest evidence.
They do what they can. They use what they know. They use what they were taught in school. They get through the day.
And honestly, I don't blame them. I am one of them.
How are we supposed to keep up with 85–90% productivity standards, documentation, CEUs, ASHA dues, changing research, changing regulations, and life outside of work?
Something has to give.
And too often, evidence-based practice is one of the things that gets pushed aside.
Not because clinicians don't care about evidence.
Because clinicians don't have the time or the tools to keep up with it.
In just one year, I have worked for three different companies across more than ten buildings, and I kept seeing the same problem:
SLPs can't keep up.
And I don't think the answer is to tell clinical SLPs to simply “do better.”
We need to give them the tools to do better.
Researchers are doing incredible work to figure out what actually works. But clinical SLPs are the ones who take that research and turn it into real treatment.
We are the bridge between research and real life.
So I started thinking: What if accessing the research was easier? What if an SLP could find relevant evidence, use it to plan a session, collect data, and track progress, all in one place?
That is why I built EBP‑SLP.
EBP‑SLP is designed to bridge the gap between research and real-world clinical practice, one clinician at a time.
You can browse real, evidence-based research and get a clinician-friendly description of each article. Premium features allow you to generate session plans from the research, take data, and track progress over time. With the My Patient feature, you can search based on the type of patient you're treating and find relevant research to help guide your intervention.
And this is just the beginning.
I didn't build EBP‑SLP because I think clinical SLPs aren't doing enough.
I built it because I think clinical SLPs are doing too much with too little support.
I built this for the clinical SLP.
Our patients deserve evidence-based care.
And clinicians deserve the tools to provide it.
Download EBP‑SLP, try it out, and tell me what you think.
